About the theme: You know you’ve been wanting to get something off your chest. Is your New Year’s resolutions off track already? Is that lie you’ve been telling eating you up? Do you finally want to admit to mom that you broke that vase when you were 12?  If you’re ready to come clean – it’s all fair game. You can even consider this free therapy!

We’ll have prepared storytellers and plenty of open mic slots. If you have a grand confession you’d like to share, email co-producers Ivy Eisenberg or Zak Shusterman.

We all have a story within us. Come share, listen, and eat!

To celebrate our first appearance at  Curious_blue100 , we’re offering a free storytelling workshop to help you craft your own tale.

Join PoP’s own Ivy Eisenberg for a fun, interactive workshop. We will cover how to mine your life for stories, how to choose and uncover “the story” and how to deliver that story. No prior knowledge or performance experience is necessary. This is about real people telling real stories. Everyone who comes will walk away with a 5 minute story ready to tell at a PoP open mic!

With the chilly change in season, it’s also time for Prose of Pie to move on to bigger, better, warmer venues. Cast off the season’s chill a “Close Call”-themed show on Dec. 13 at  Curious_blue100 in nearby Dobbs Ferry, just minutes from our roots in Tarrytown.

About the theme: Hear tales about accidents that should have gone much worse, and neighbors narrowly making it through a difficult situation. And we want to hear your stories too: that time you should’ve failed but somehow managed to squeak by? a big mistake that went unnoticed? that thing you got into when you were almost caught….. They’re all fair game! As always, try to impress us by stretching the theme to fit your story!

This month, we’re back to our normal format – a line-up of prepared longer stories, lots of open mic slots, and opportunities for anonymous participation. Go ahead, give it a try and start this new PoP chapter with us! Your ears and tastebuds will thank you.


2nd Annual Halloween PoP a hit; Big news soon

We’re still hearing raves for our wonderful Halloween show at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, the region’s best Halloween venue.  We were delighted by tales from PoP veterans Jim Keyes and Jill Liflander, and a first time appearance from Moth winner Sandi Marx.

Second Annual Halloween PoP in the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery!

For our second annual Halloween PoP, we’re bringing Pros(e) of Pie back to the world renowned Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Our storytellers will be delighting you in the Washington Irving Memorial Chapel. There couldn’t be a better setting for an evening of true Halloween tales.  Expect a nice sampling of seasonal pies that you’ll taste and vote on.

Tickets are already selling for this special edition of Pros(e) of Pie, the Hudson Valley’s most popular storytelling series. Come find out what’s been drawing audiences to sold-out shows for over a year. Trust us, it’s not just the pie!

When: Oct. 22, 8pm

Theme: ALL THINGS HALLOWEEN

Location: THE SLEEPY HOLLOW CEMETERY (540 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY)
And, let’s keep it clear folks : the show will be at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery – not the Old Dutch Church. Use the entrance about half a mile north of the Old Dutch Church.

The pies entered in our bake-off are baked by members of the audience. Tempted to enter your creation for a chance to win a gift card? You’ll need to (1) buy tickets early, (2) email us your info and the type of pie you’re bringing, and (3) try to drop your pie off by 7:30p for the best chance at votes!

September Theme: SUPERSTITION – Sept. 13

What an incredible first year – from that first show in June 2013 through to our grand Anniversary Special at the Tarrytown Music Hall last month. Thanks again to everyone involved – volunteers, storytellers, and the audience that came back month after month! Now, join us as we kick off our 2nd year with a “Superstition”-themed show on Sept. 13.

They’re all fair game – old wive’s tales, urban legends, & campfire rumors; knocking on wood and casting the evil eye. That time a superstition stopped you cold or led you on a great adventure? About the theme: This month, we want to hear about your moments of suspense. That time you were wondering if she’d say yes. Would you get that job offer? Dreading a call back from the doctor…. Suspense when you’re looking forward to something or suspense when you’re dreading it. And sometimes, it’s the suspense itself that you get to enjoy! As always, try to impress us by stretching the theme to fit your story!

All open-mic Pros(e) of Pie a success!

So many stories….   Many thanks to all the brave souls that joined us on May 17 for our first all open-mic show. So many of you put your names in the hat to share your “Mother Lode” themed stories that we kept the show going past 10pm!  We’ll be posting some of the open mic stories so stay tuned.

…and such tasty pies.  We had a bountiful array of 7 pies on hand this month. Special congratulations to May’s Pie Master – Margaret – who knocked us off our feet with her chocolate-on-chocolate maple candied nut’ masterPIEce!  If we’re lucky, she’ll be sharing her recipe with all of us very soon.
