Pros(e) of Pie was sold out in August for the second month in a row!  We didn’t want to set our hopes too high but were delighted by the crowd we drew. There were some logistical changes to accommodate our pie-loving audience – including releasing only a small batch of door tickets and letting online ticketholders in early for first pick of seats and pie. The evening’s best pie winner was a blueberry streusel tart made by experienced storyteller and baker, Cynthia.

If you weren’t able to get in this month, please buy tickets early for the next installment. (hint: it’ll be on Sept. 21 and tickets go on sale later this week)

In the meantime, we’ll be releasing video of some of this month’s storytelling.   For now, here’s the public debut of Paul William’s boy meets dog story – one of the night’s featured stories.

This month’s theme – BOUNTY – appropriately describes the reception to July’s installment of Pros(e) of Pie. Online tickets sold out… door tickets sold out…. and,when we couldn’t say no, we allowed some standing room spots!

The audience was treated to long form stories from Jim Keyes, Bari Alyse Rudin, and John Georgette. Coincidentally, John Georgette started off as an open-mic’er during the very first Pros(e) of Pie in June. Plus, several brave souls put their names in the hat for our shorter open-mic slots and four of them were selected to get their stories out.

This month’s “Best Pie” title, selected by audience ballot, went to a wonderful Apple-blueberry ‘miracle’ crumble. Baked by the winner of last month’s prize! The skilled baker won a second $20 gift card to Chef Central.  For the sake of fair play, we’ll be changing the rules to prevent any more streaks of pie-baking supremacy.

And, one lucky audience member won the raffle, bringing home a tasty lemon-blueberry pie (pictured below).

What a wonderful debut for Prose of Pie on June 1st. The theme was Transitions and all the stories did it proud. Many thanks to our premier line up of storytellers, the folks brave enough to sign up for open mic storytelling, and to all our pie bakers.

The evening’s stories included: a great tale about the odyssey of entering a different world in her own neighborhood; a nonstop laugh riot about parenting and the ordeal of living with a grandmother competing with hired help for maternal supremacy; a professional entertainer sharing the development of his skills from early childhood in catholic school to singing yom kippur services in a cavernous synagogue.

We heard some great open mic tales as well, spanning the range from teary-eyed laughter to a heart-rending personal adventure in the big city.

Bring on to the pie!

It was tough picking a winner from among all the delicious pie entries. There were half a dozen entries. In the end, the first Pros(e) of Pie “Best Pie” winner, selected by audience vote, was a giant apple crumble pie. The winner received a $20 gift card to Chef Central.

And one lucky raffle winner got a lemon meringue pie to bring home.
